HOWRAH – A Naive Lust for Life

The artist Loes van Dorp always sees things which aren’t really there: in clouds, shadows, stains, stones and more. This time it was the foggy misty steam which seduced her. This video clip shows the things she saw, which aren’t really there, hiding in the misty shapes. There is always so much to see and when looking at the image again the same shapes can reveal something else to her. While listening to the song for this very clip over and over again, she made the things she was seeing which weren’t really there, visible, by drawing on top of the video footage. While listening to many hours of many audiobooks of Neil Gaiman, Loes refined the images. While listening to Roahld Dahl’s short stories, she made the in-betweens to connect the separate images and make it flow like the music of HOWRAH flows. In this clip one immerses themselves in the music and in the spacy world of the things she sees that aren’t really there.

Loes van Dorp (NL)
Loes is a Dutch artist who has been living in Finland since 2013. Her main way of creating is by getting inspired by her surroundings/observations or tea stains. She loves “ thinking with her hands” because this way she can surprise herself about the outcome. She has more ideas than she will ever be able to realize. “I am not an illustrator. I am just a medium between my obscure characters and the real world. I am just the tool that helps them to manifest themselves”.
